2007 TimberCache Challenge

October 6, 2007

We're excited to announce the first-ever TimberCache Challenge to be held at the Sheridan Recreation Center grounds, starting at 10 a.m. at the Pavilion. The event and open to all teams (and individuals) from everywhere, and pre-registration is encouraged. You do not have to participate in the Challenge event to attend (all are welcome), but those wishing to enter the Challenge must register.

PLEASE NOTE: We originally planned to have special geocoins minted for this event but due to an accident by the organizer, this is not certain at this time.

Registration is free, but we ask that you pre-register so we'll know how many people to expect. For official rules and registration information, please click the link on the left.

TimberCache is held the same weekend as the Grant County Chamber of Commerce's annual festival, Timberfest. For details on this great weekend festival, click here to visit their website. This event features lumberjack competitions, a parade, various contests and events, as well as kiddie carnival and more, and draws a large crowd to the area.

For those traveling into Sheridan and seeking overnight accommodations, we recommend staying at The Hilcrest Inn. Room rates are $55 plus tax (a group rate may be set up if there is enough interest) and reservations are recommended EARLY if you wish to stay in Sheridan for this event as the hotel has filled up consistently in the past for Timberfest. The hotel's website for information is www.hilcrestinn.com. Additionally, you may elect to stay in one of the neighboring cities such as Benton, Bryant or Little Rock (about a 45 minute drive), if you need overnight accommodations.

There will be a minimum of 20 event caches hidden in Sheridan that will feature one special prize per cache, to be taken by the first to find. The coordinates for these caches will NOT be given out prior to the contest as they are special Challenge Caches. The Challenge Cache List will be given out starting at 10 a.m. at the Pavilion. The winning team will be the first to log all caches by copying down the secret code inside, and return to the Pavilion. The winning team will receive the championship trophy.

We hope that you'll come out and enjoy our event, and for those new to geocaching, we welcome you to come out and learn more about this great adventure!

We will be taking donations for a local high school senior's community service project (no donation is required, but we will certainly accept them for him!). The donations will go to Justin Hall's Team Heifer project, a fund raiser for Heifer Project International. Justin's hoping to raise $2,000 before he graduates this year, helping to fight world hunger and poverty.
